Castles in Paris
Paris boasts vast and splendid castles - royal residences of French kings and emperors, like the great Napoleon Bonaparte. Majestic architecture, magnificent design and elegance interweave in the ambience of each one of them. The largest castle in Paris, Versaille, will bring you back to the 16th Century, when leading French and Italian painters created their masterpieces on its walls and prominent sculptors have left their traces in its halls. Vaux-le-Vicomte is another fantastic châteaux, where special performances are organized in the summer. They include opera, music, fountains, fireworks and a candlelight tour which will lead you to the chambers of Maria Antoinette and Barbizon dining rooms. The splendour of Parisian castles will leave you breathless.

The Château de Chantilly is a mansion located in the town of Chantilly, France, built by Pierre Chambiges in 1528–1531 for Constable Anne de Montmorency. The original estate was built in 1484. It comprises two attached buildings; the Grand Château, which was destroyed during the French Revolution and the Petit Château, which was built around 1560. In 1632, the Grand Condé inherited the estate from his mother, a Montmorency. The Grand Château was restored by Condé and completely rebuilt between 1875 and 1881 by Henri d'Orléans, duc d'Aumale, to the designs of Honore Daumet.

The Château de Vincennes is now a huge 14th-century royal castle in the town of Vincennes, east of Paris, which initially was built as a hunting lodge for Louis VII around 1150 in the woods of Vincennes. In the 13th Century, Louis IX built a larger manor, and about 1337 Philip VI added a 520 metre high tower which made the castle the tallest Medieval fortified structure in Europe. Around 1410, Valois built 330 x 175 metre walls, with six towers and three 42 metre high gates. Now, the castle boasts a 1,100 metre long outer wall with nine massive towers surrounded by a 27 metre wide moat and a Gothic chapel, designed to the likes of Île de la Cité.

Now it is a charming 18th-century château in the northwestern part of the Bois de Boulogne in Paris, set in the midst of beautiful gardens.
