The Spanish Riding School in Vienna is a unique institution. It is the only one in the world that exists for over 430 years and where the old Renaissance tradition of classical horsemanship is preserved and cultivated till nowadays. It has its name thanks to the Spanish horses.
The beautiful building provides a one-of-kind setting for training. The Spanish Riding School is the only one riding academy in the world. The date of its foundation is written in documents to be in 1572. The wars against Turkey in the 17th century took their sacrifices on a part of the Riding School. The reconstruction work began in 1685. In 1735 Charles VI finished building work afresh. Since then, only horses from Lipica have been used at the School. The famous and elegant Lipizzaner horses take their name from the village of Lipica which is located in Slovenia that was the home of the original royal stud. These horses are characterised by a perfect and noble physique, the ability to learn, graceful movements, liveliness, good nature.

The Vienna Boys' Choir is one of the oldest boys' choirs in the world. The choir has been a symbol of Austria for nearly five hundred years. A document of Maximilian I in 1498 called the first boys as members of the recently formed court music band. Since then the Boys' Choir has been a fixed attraction in Austrian musical life.
