Institutions in Rome
As the capital of Italy, Rome is home to many of the country's key institutions. Numerous international headquarters, government ministries, sports venues and conference centres are located in Rome's principal business district, the Esponsizone Universal Roma otherwise known as the EUR. Other notable institutions in the city include The National Research Council (CNR), which is an organisation responsible for the promotion and improvement of research in key areas relating to the growth of knowledge within Italy’s scientific, technological, economic and social communities and the Roma Europa Foundation is a leading European and Italian organisation, which promotes modern art, dance, music and theatre. Also, headquartered in Rome is the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) that provides a forum for countries to meet to discuss agreements and policies relating to global efforts to abolish hunger in both developed and under-developed nations.

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is a specialised agency under the auspices of the United Nations whose main task is to fight hunger. FAO is a neutral forum allowing nations to negotiate and dabate policies. The organisation provides knowledge and information and helps developing countreis ensure adequate nutrition. The FAO features various programmes, one of them is the Goodwill Ambassadors Programme which was started in 1999. The main objective is to draw attention to the fact that nearly 800 million people continue to suffer from chronic hunger and malnutrition. FAO works to ensure that eveyone is granted the most basic human right – the right to food.
