Tips for a day Out of London

Touring London and exploring each and every one of its sights and corners requires a decade and can be quite tiring. Should you feel overwhelmed by the immensity of this fast-pace metropolis, you might want to head for the country. However, while one day out trips outside the city are a frequent and easy pastime for Londoners, visitors should plan ahead where they would like to go to enjoy the hassle-free holiday outing.

Planning a Trip
Before setting for adventures outside the well-organised metropolis, you should prepare a map with the highlights of your journey. As getting around in the country is rather easy, with no hassle on the road and a general air of politeness, what really needs getting used to is the left-side traffic. It might feel just a little bit odd seeing everything on the road happening as if in a mirror reflection but after all, it’s just a matter of practice!

Getting Around
A central issue of your experience outside London is to choose the best means of transportation. Making your way through the countryside by car guarantees the most flexibility, provided that you’re used to driving on the left side of the road. Otherwise, taking a bus ride is not only more convenient, but also far more affordable. A drawback of the bus and train system, however, is that you have to adjust your plans to the schedules, but knowing the famous English punctuality, you are, at least, bound to arrive at your destination on time.Renting a bike even for shorter stretches, is not a good idea, as distances, in the outskirts of London as well as in its immediate vicinity, require a lot of pedaling amongst industrial settings and in crowded streets originally conceived for cars.

Getting Lost
Not to get lost in the meandering roads outside of London, take advantage of the GPS services! Through the GPS system you can always find your way through the remote countryside, even if it seems that you're stuck in a strange farm somewhere deep into the moors and bogs of the inland. Another piece of advice is to keep your phone charged and call any road emergency service, although this might come at a hefty price.

Supplies and Daily Needs
When on the road, nothing could be as refreshing as a well-prepared snack. Prepare a picnic basket or stop by a roadside gas station. Crackers, chocolate, power bars, dried fruit and energy drinks constituting significant part of your survival in the bleak English countryside. Although credit card payment is widely accepted everywhere outside the capital, you are strongly recommended to bring some cash along, as some smaller gas stations might refuse to take credit payments. Still, if you run out of cash, ATMs abound in the area around London.
