Museums in Brussels
Brussels offers the visitor a wide range of museums and art galleries. The Museum of Modern Art displays work from 19th- and 20th-century masters. Works by Belgian artists such as James Ensor, Navez and Portaels adorn the walls alongside that of foreign artists like Vuillard and Gauguin. There are many displays of Abstractionism, Fauvism, Futurism and Surrealism as well as a unique display of sculptures by leading names such as Puvrez, Cantre and Jespers. The Royal Museum of the Army and Military History is also well worth visiting. The museum houses one of the greatest collections of military relics in the world. A highlight of this museum is the collection of World War II airplanes, which includes Spitfires, Hurricanes and Mosquitos. Another noteworthy museum is the Royal Museum of Art, which offers a large collection of modern and ancient art spanning five continents.

The Museum of Architecture – The Lodge, showcasing the city's architectural archives, is installed in a former Masonic lodge, The Human Right. The original setting is across the street from the Centre International pour la Ville, l'Architecture et le Paysage (CIVA) and offers a glimpse into architectural documents, photographs, scale models, furniture, sketches and correspondence.

The site includes the locomotion Pays de Waes (Country of Waes), constructed in 1845, which is surrounded by scale models and photographs of different vehicles, marking devices, railway tracks and points, as well as coupes providing explanations on the functioning of steam traction.

The collection of the Museum of China – Scheut features showcases of the folklore, craft industry and religions of Chinese people, with displays from the 17th to 19th Centuries. Established in a missionaries' convent, this museum recounts aspects of the cultural and artistic life of ancient China. The site's pieces were brought back to Europe by the congregation of Scheut's missionaries, who sought to familiarise young missionary candidates with Chinese culture.

Since 1979, the Allende Room, named after a former president of the Republic of Chili, has been an exhibition room of the Free University of Brussels (ULB). Set in the core of the Solbosch campus, the room occupies an important place in the cultural life on campus. Essentially devoted to housing exhibitions of the university community itself, ULB's cultural service has also offered a programme devoted to Plastic Arts since 1999, as well as exhibits devoted to the creative process of Contemporary Art.

The collection of the Museum of Fantastic Art offers displays of fantastic creatures, pictures, paintings, sculptures and the history of the biosynthesis works. The museum, installed in a mansion in the rue Américaine, in the immediate vicinity of the Horta Museum, is entirely dedicated to Fantastic Art. Spanning three levels, the collection emphasises on 'weird' or 'special' art. Balancing between the Baroque and the peculiar, the collection showcases the objects' Surrealistic side. Michel Dircken, the brainchild of this museum, has arranged the exhibits in the utmost detail and has also produced a multitude of works himself.

The Museum of Medicine at Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) is dedicated to the history of medicine and anatomical wax. Established in 1995, is an attempt to bridge art and medicine. This site presents several historical and artistic testimonies connected with the evolution of medical paradigmas, such as the mythological, religious and rational, based upon observation, testing and development of technology, which spans from the earliest Antiquity until the present day. The museum also holds a collection of anatomical wax of the Spitzner type and rooms devoted to paleomedicine, such as pre-Columbian medicine, non-European collections devoted to the Arabic, African and Asian medicine.
