Seurasaari Open-Air Museum

The open-air museum of Seurasaari is located on the island of the same name, one of the many islands that constitute a part of the city of Helsinki. Established in 1909, the museum features a number of traditional wooden and log houses from the last two centuries. Each of the 87 constructions in the museum is closely related to one province of the country. Especially valuable is the Karuna Church whose origins date back to 1686.

The National Museum of Finland is situated in the centre of Helsinki in a splendid historic building, whose appearance is reminiscent of Medieval Finnish churches and castles. It was inaugurated in 1916 and after several renovations welcomes visitors in its current state since 2000. The purpose of the institution is to gather and preserve artifacts that capture the nature of life in Finland from pre-historic times up to the present. It is divided into six main departments with an emphasis upon folk culture and historical treasures. There is a visitor information centre adjacent to the museum.
