Art Galleries in Venice
Venice has for long been acclaimed as one of the greatest centres of art and culture in Italy. There seem to be an art gallery around every corner, although the highest concentration of exhibition venues is to be found in the Accademia (Dorsoduro) area and near St Mark’s Square. In Venice, one can admire artwork by both old masters and current day artists, whether established or emerging. While the best advice may be to follow your own taste and preferences, no tourist should leave the city without seeing the treasures housed in Venice’s two most prominent art galleries, The Galleria dell'Academia and The Peggy Guggenheim Gallery.

Moretti's glass factory was founded in 1958, when Carlo Moretti was only 24 years old. The enterprise was launched jointly with his brother. The glass factory quickly became one of the most significant not only in the area, but also abroad. It revived the old Venetian tradition and glass-making art skills of Murano masters. Carlo Moretti, who first graduated in law, found his real vocation in glass art. He's the one responsible for the artistic design of the products. Carlo Moretti's factory also features a gallery exhibiting some of the best art objects and products of the firm. One can also find marvellous glass objects in the Moretti shops.

Galeria Franchetti is hosted in the Ca' D'Oro in Venice – a former Gothic palace of still-enchanting beauty. The building was raised in the 15th Century, and became subject to many restoration works – the last one was finished in 1980. The gallery was named after its founder, Franchetti, and features his entire collection of art objects. The Franchetti collection has been constantly enriched, and now contains a myriad of remarkable works, including Titian's 'Venus', 'The Annunciation' by Carpaccio, paintings by Mantegna, Anton van Dyck, etc.

The Ravagnan Gallery is one of those fascinating art places boasting an excellent location in the heart of Venice. It's set right on St. Marco Square, just a few steps from most of the marvellous historical sites of the romantic City on the Water. Contemporary paintings of mainly resident artists are exhibited here. Some of the names include Mosna, Formenti, Giuliani, Vizzini and De Luigi. Luciano Ravagnan founded his gallery in 1967, and over the years he managed to make one of the most prestigious art venues in town, as well as being among the oldest. The gallery is managed by Luciano jointly with his daughter and son. They aim to ensure a performance space for young and talented artists, with a constant trend to always present the most up-to-date currents in Modern art.

The Barovier Gallery is a fairy-tale of glass and colour, a dream that a girl from Genoa managed to make come true. The owner, Marina Barovier, founded her first gallery in 1980, and later moved it to a bigger place – its present location. Her collection of glass is one of the most impressive in the region, as she aims at presenting the best of Venetian glass art. But her most important merit is the love she has dedicated to reviving the traditions of Venetian glass-making. You'll see works by Vittoria Zecchin, Napoleone Martinuzzi, Ercole Barovier and others.
