Entertainment in Brussels

The official seat of the majority of EU institutions, Brussels is seen by many as the perfect essence of European multi-nationalism. Spectacularly modern buildings set amidst green parks create the perfect destination for those in search of an entertaining holiday.

The Belgian Comic Strip Centre is a great destination for an interesting family trip. This impressively modern exhibit explains the process of cartoon creation and presents the original versions of sketches of famous cartoon characters, as well as finished comic strips. The centre's bookshop offers a wide selection of rare books and posters.

Your children will also appreciate a visit to Mini-Europe. This fantastic open-air museum situated at the foot of the Atomium features over 350 meticulously made small-sized replicas of the most emblematic buildings of the EU. The special exhibition “Spirit of Europe” is an intriguing labyrinth of interactive multimedia games.

For an active and entertaining day, visit Aqualibi, an exciting water park where even the coldest winter day becomes a holiday in the tropical heat. An artificial exotic island can be reached after sliding down one of the two 140-metre tubes in the shape of a boa snake. If you prefer fun on dry land, take your family to Bois de la Cambre and use the entire afternoon to explore its giant playground. In the summer, Gare du Midi hosts a seasonal fun fair, featuring roller coaster rides and a giant Ferris wheel.

The picturesque parks of Brussels are already of legendary status. There's no better refuge from the merciless commotion of the metropolis than hilly Parc Léopold, with a lovely lake providing a pleasant breeze on hot summer afternoons. Brussels Park boasts a collection of fountains that produce a similarly soothing effect. In the spring, be sure to visit Belgium’s National Botanical Garden, located to the north of the city. Beautiful Bouchout Castle rises over vast stretches of grass dotted with ponds, flowerbeds and greenhouses. The garden is one of the largest institutions of its kind in the world, boasting over 18,000 different plant species, comprising about 6 percent of all existing types of plants. It organises an annual flower exhibition.
