Cinemas in Venice
One of the first associations that people often have with Venice is the Film Festival which takes place every year in late August. If you happen to be in the city at this time, you are in for a cinematic treat, but during the rest of the year the chances to watch a good film in Venice are rather scarce. This is because in recent years many old Venetian cinemas have been turned into supermarkets or university departments and the majority of those that remain mainly screen dubbed Hollywood films. That said, Venice still features several venues for noncomercial films, among them Rossini and Accademia in Dorsoduro.
