The great number of top-label boutiques present in the streets of Barcelona comes as a surprise to most first-time visitors who expect more traditional establishments. Elegant shops and department stores sell everything from international and local designer collections to popular global brands, available at prices lower than anywhere else in Western Europe. Top destinations for self-declared fashionistas include:

• Las Ramblas, Passeig de Gràcia and Avingunda Diagonal, on both sides of Plaça de Catalunya, guarantee a top-quality shopping experience in a truly amazing setting. Boutiques occupy the ground floor of beautiful 19th - and early 20th-Century buildings. The likes of Chanel, Versace and Max Mara have set up their establishments alongside the more affordable Zara, Diesel and Benetton. The area features a large number of small outdoor cafés where you can rest and enjoy a refreshing drink with some tapas.
• Portal d'Angel and Portaferrisa, in northern Barri Gòtic, are home to highly popular fashion brands such as H&M and Levi’s. The area is also worth a visit for its excellent-quality shoe shops.
• El Raval and El Born should be included on your itinerary if you're a fan of vintage clothing, second-hand boutiques and ethnic accessories.

Art & Antiques
While fashion rules Barcelona's glittering modern boulevards, the narrow winding streets of the more traditional parts of the city are the dominion for those hunting for craft and antique treasures.

• Bulevard dels Antiquaris, just off Passeig de Gràcia, is Barcelona's major antique-dealing area, as its name suggests. There are over 70 shops here, selling paintings, wooden sculptures, crystal, porcelain and more.
• Carrer dels Banys Nous and its side streets are an area in Barri Gòtic, well-known among art dealers for its abundance of antique and specialty shops.
