Visas in the Netherlands

Before you travel to Netherlands find out about visa restrictions. The nationals of the Schengen Agreement countries do not require a visa. However citizens of countries outside the Schengen Agreement should apply for a visa. There are several types of visas depending on the duration of stay and the number of entries. For more info on whether you need to apply for a visa to enter Netherlands, visit the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs website. Before sending or bringing in your application, contact the nearest Consulate or Embassy to verify your information about the required documents and the visa fee.


Who Requires a Visa

  • Nationals of the following countries do not require a visa for a stay up to 90 days: the EU, Australia, Canada, Great Britain, New Zealand, Japan and the USA.
  • Nationals of Andorra, Brunei, Israel, Jamaica, Malawi, Malaysia, San Marino, Singapore, South Korea and the countries of Central and Latin America do not need a tourist visa to enter the Netherlands.
  • Nationals of the following countries do not require a visa for a stay up to 90 days:
    Andorra, Argentina, Austria, Australia, Bolivia, Brazil, Brunei, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, El Salvador, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany,Greece, Guatemala, Hodnuras, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, italy, Japan, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Monaco, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Norway, Panama. Paraguay, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States of America, Uruguay, Vatican City, Venezuela.
  • All international guests must report to the local police authorities for their arrival within 8 days.
  • For a stay longer than 3 months, all nationalities except the EU, Norway, Iceland, Australia, new Zealand, Canada, the USA, Japan, Liechtenstein, Monaco and Switzerland must obtain an Authorization for temporary residence (ATR). This ATR is obtained at the country of permanent residence after 5 months.

Transit Passengers

  • Nationals of most of the countries do not require an airport transit visa.
  • Nationals of the following countries require an airport transit visa: Afghanistan, Angola, Bangladesh, DR Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Syria.

Short Stay Visa

A short stay visa may be obtained for purposes such as shopping, business, tourism or a family visit.
