Students in Spain
A while back, Spain used to lag behind other western European countries in terms of educational quality, but today, as a result of work by universities and support from the government, the country is gradually growing in popularity as a study abroad destination. Choosing to study in Spain can offer numerous benefits. Apart from being comparatively inexpensive, it provides students with the opportunity of learning or practising one of the most widely spoken languages in the world.
What and where to study in Spain
The Spanish university system is comprises 75 university institutions, 56 of which are state-run and the remaining 19 private (run by private enterprises or by the Catholic church). Moreover, there are many non-university higher education institutes for physical education, civil marine, tourism, dramatic art and dance, and song and dance as well as numerous esteemed business schools (often American). The University of Salamanca is Spain’s oldest, established in 1218. It offers courses in Science, Law, Psychology, Business and Economics. The two largest and most acclaimed Spanish universities are Complutense in Madrid and the University of Barcelona, but quality education is also provided at the University of Granada (specialising in Arabic Studies, Computer Sciences and Women’s Studies) and the University of Seville (offering disciplines ranging from Law and Economy to Philosophy and Translation).
