The Old Bailey, more officially known as the Central Criminal Court, is located in close proximity to the infamous Newgate, London’s chief prison complex from the 13th Century. The main court building was reconstructed a number of times, first time after the Great Fire of London. The last reconstruction was completed in 1907 in neo-Classical style. It’s within the walls of the Old Bailey that a number of famous criminals, such as the poisoner-doctor William Palmer and the murderer Reggie Kray, met their sad end. The dome of the court seat it topped with a statue of Lady Justice; in her right hand, she is holding a sword, and in her left, weighing scales.
