Town: Barcelona

Avinguda Meridiana is one of the most strategic avenues in Barcelona and passes directly through the northern districts of Barcelona: Sant Andreu, Nou Barris and Sant Marti. However, nowadays it is rather known as a main transit route linking Parc de la Ciutadella with the northern parts of the city. At its crossroads with Placa de les Glories it meets the other two main lanes: Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes and Avinguda Diagonal. Because of its perfect location in the very heart of the city, the street is home to numerous important institutions and public buildings.

Carrer and placeta de Montcada
Town: Barcelona
Address: Carrer and placeta de Montcada

Beside the basilica of Santa Maria del Mar, there is the Placeta de Montcada which, for a long time, served the Counts of Barcelona and finally became the leading power in the town in the 11th Century. The founding of the Monastery of Santes Creus highlighted the culmination point of the family's history and the period of their greatest splendour - when Guillem Ramon de Montcada was designated King Regent to the young King Alfons II. The street soon became the main centre of commercial life in the quarter of Ribera. Today, along Carrer de Montcada, there are several commercial galleries, with its biggest one being the Galeria Maeght and others including Galeria Surrealista, Sala Montcada of the Fundacio La Caixa, Galeria Beaskoa and Galeria Montcada.

Carrer de Balmes
Town: Barcelona
Address: Carrer de Balmes

Named after the Catalan philosopher and priest, Jaume Balmes, this is one of the most important avenues in Barcelona. Along Carrer Muntaner, Carrer de Balmes is the longest city lane stretching from the seaside towards the mountains. At the beginning it crosses both Pelai and Bergara streets and goes through the districts of Eixample and Sant Gervasi until the Placa John Fitzgerald Kennedy where it is interrupted by Avinguda del Tibidabo and Tramvia Blau. With its impressive old-style mansions it looks like an elegant aristocratic neighbourhood occupied only by the very rich of Barcelona. Although it is the core of local business and culture, the street hasn't lost any of its former majesty, and has managed to retain its unique charm of the past.
