Abadia
Town: Madrid
Address: Fernandez de los Rios, 42
Phone: +34 91 448 11 81
e-mail:
abadia@teatroabadia.com
Price: 9 - 22 EUR
The Abadia Theatre was inaugurated on February 14, 1995 and has become famous as one of the hottest theatres in Madrid. The building is very interesting from an architectural point of view because it is built over the ruins of a church and abbey. Even the roof of the auditorium is actually the former dome of the church. As far as the genre of the performances is concerned, the theatre gives stage to classical international and particularly English plays and, more often than not, to major Spanish playwrights. Besides these mainstream pieces, alternative and avant-garde works are also sometimes shown. Abadia is not just a typical theatre: numerous and diverse dance performances, poetry recitals and chamber concerts are also an inevitable part of its schedule.

Price: 8 - 10 EUR
Situated in the middle of the bustling Chueca district,
El Canto de la Cabra
is one of the most fascinating theatre venues in Madrid. The performances held here are predominantly comedies and humorous works of contemporary Spanish and foreign playwrights. Apart from presenting these innovative plays, the company (by the same name) that owns the spot sets a large number of its own productions on the stage. The space is quite limited with only 70 seats being available, but this contributes to the hearty and casual atmosphere. In the summer months, however, the theatre organises open-air performances on the patio - an event that is the only one of this kind in the Spanish capital.
