Entertainment in Lithuania
Lithuania has a wide variety of entertainment, from cafes and bars through to amusement parks and cruises. Lithuanians love the outdoors with many open-air festivals, national parks and canoeing. Most casinos are situated in the capital - Vilnius. There is a diverse range of international and traditional restaurants; Vilnius has many ethnic restaurants ranging from Chinese to Greek food. Fast food restaurants are numerous and Lithuania has an extremely successful pizza chain called Cili Pica. Restaurants here are famous for serving large portions of food. Cafes in Lithuania are also well-liked, but the majority of the cafes are actually internet cafes. The largest cafe chain throughout the capital is Cafe Presto. Self service in restaurants dominates also in the capital city. The country has many night clubs; again many are located in the capital. The main genre of music played in the Lithuania clubs is Hip Hop and R’n’B. There are also a number of gay clubs in the capital.
Spas and Sauna are abundant across the country, but only one is situated in the capital. Each of the spas and saunas specialises in a different aspect, for example the Spa in Birštonas, concentrates on the psychological health of the body. Most spas are positioned in the city of Traky. There are lots of national parks in Lithuania, however the three most famous parks can be found in Aukstaitija, with its thousands of lakes, Zemaitija with its rolling farmlands and Dzukija with its huge forests full of mushrooms. There are hundreds of beaches in Lithuania, the majority is situated on the Baltic Sea coastline, but there are some man-made beaches on the coast of the rivers, lakes and ponds of Lithuania.
There are three jazz festivals, which take place every year, in the months of April, June and September, in three different cities. The April Jazz festival is called Kaunas Jazz; this is the youngest festival that takes place in the country and it features the most powerful music. The June festival lasts five days. The audience of the June festival is always mainly older teenagers. The September Festival is aimed at adults. Usually five different jazz bands play during one big concert. Kaunas has its own Musical Theatre and opera and ballet are performed in the city at the Vilnius Opera Theatre. Puppet shows are regularly staged for children in Vilnius and Kaunas streets.
