Entertainment in Ukraine
Ukraine has a diverse range of recreation and leisure pursuits. Casinos exist in all major cities with the majority being located in the capital city, Kiev. The largest here can be found in the River Palace Entertainment Complex. Restaurants in Ukraine offer mainly traditional cuisine, but there is plenty of choice particularly in major cities. There are also plenty of fast food restaurants including McDonalds and the indigenous Mr. Snack, which is famous for its meat kebab. Cafes are abundant in all towns and most offer internet services and are well priced. Each one serves the famous Ukrainian drink, compote, which is a mix of fruit, water and juice. There are plenty of nightclubs, particularly in Kiev and Minsk. One to visit is the exclusive Gold Cup Nightclub, which has a sophisticated Spanish atmosphere and oozes luxury.
Spas are a popular way to relax in Ukraine and can be found in most major cities. The two biggest spas are called the Morshyn and the Truskavets, both are located in Kiev. The spas provide a range of medical treatments with the natural mineral waters enhanced by a healthy diet, physical exercise, massages and Jacuzzi. The Morshyn Spa has three swimming pools, Jacuzzis, facial treatments, massages, manicures and a gym available. There are nine national parks scattered all over the country. The National Park of Skolivs'ki Beskydy is situated close to the city of Lviv and is home to a vast forest full of different species of birds, and plant life. The park is famous for hiking and cycling, there are many routes providing spectacular views.
There are lots of cultural events to enjoy, in particular, The Odessa Jazz Carnival, which attracts large crowds who dress up as their favourite jazz musicians. Operas are extremely popular throughout Ukraine. The Opera house situated in Kiev, is the best known as the most beautiful opera house in Ukraine. The opera has many frequent performances of Ballet and Opera, as well as, concerts and events. Performances are shown twice a day. On the last weekend of September in the city of Lviv, there is a birthday celebration for the city. The carnival features a jazz festival as well as events for children such as puppet shows. There are also folklore and other types of dance competitions, fireworks, parades, bazaars and choral shows. This event attracts people from all over the world.
