Port wine
Port wine, also known as Vinho do Porto, Oporto or simply Port, is one of the best known sweet fortified dessert wines. It originates from the Douro Valley in the north of Portugal. It owes its deep and strong aroma to the the distilled grape spirits. Its name, dating back to the 17th century, derives from the city name - Porto, from where it was exported to other European countries. There are several types of Port. The most popular are Tawny, Ruby, White and Late-bottled Vintage, differing in colour, taste and aroma. Original Port has to spend at least seven years in a barrel, however, the most notable age even for 40 years.
