Those who enjoy more of a cultural night may choose a night at the theatre or opera, whilst those with families may head straight for the fun fair or the circus. One thing not to miss upon a visit to Germany is a traditional night out at one of the country's many beer cellars.

There are many bars and beer cellars located all over Germany. Bars in general stay open until the last customer leaves, a wide selection of music is played from jazz to traditional band music. The beer cellars are great places to taste the wide range of real German ale and offer a lively night out where you are sure to meet many hospitable local people. Many of the bars and beer cellars offer typical German cuisine. All major towns and cities have an abundance of nightclubs with the hottest club scenes available in Munich and Berlin. Most German towns hold a fun fair at certain times of the year providing a great night out for all the family. One of the biggest fun fairs in Germany is part of Munich’s famous Oktoberfest. This annual festival takes place in September and October and is renowned for the homage it pays to German beer. The festival is open both day and night and is a great place to soak up the Germanic spirit in every sense of the word. German fairs have all of the classic rides such as the Ferris Wheel, plus all the exhilarating rides such as the rollercoaster. Fun fairs are open from noon till 11pm. Circuses are also popular in Germany, although few today have many animal acts due to pressure from animal rights activists.

If sport is your idea of a great night out then Germany has much to offer. Football is one of the country's most popular sports, but volleyball, tennis, basketball and ice hockey also draw large crowds. Most sports offer evening matches in one of the country’s many purpose built stadia.
