Nightlife in Italy

Whether you're going on your own, with a partner or the whole family, Italy has something to offer for every occasion. Even the most demanding tourist will be satisfied with a multitude of clubs and bars, pizzerias or a night at the casino. Sports fans may enjoy a live game of football, ice hockey or watching a professional boxing match. Culture vultures may prefer to immerse themselves in the arts and most cities offer plenty of choice for this.

The main cities of Italy feature many nightclubs, all of them full of colour and excitement. Many young people head for the city of Testaccio, where the nightclubs present a wide variety of music and themes. Most are open from 11pm until early morning, seven days a week. If the summer weather holds out then most clubs spill onto the street or beach. Like most countries there is an age limit of 18 years to be admitted. You will find plenty of over thirty-year-olds dancing the night away in nightclubs, however once a week the nightclubs open special evenings, for the gay community, older people and younger teenagers.

If clubbing doesn’t take your fancy then a quiet drink may do. Bars are the central point to Italian nightlife. They offer a social drink and a chance to meet new people rather than to drink too much! Bars are usually filled with a wide range of people from business men and manual workers to families with small children. Bars are plentiful in Italy with various themes and different atmospheres. There are also many international bars in the capital city Rome, offering foreign drinks like the English Ale and Stout. Another entertaining night out, which may enrich your wallet, can be axperienced at one of Italy’s many casinos. Most open mid - afternoon and close around 4 or 5 am. Some are situated in hotels and provide free food and drink to people playing the slots or gaming tables. Traditional games can be played at the casinos such as favourites; Black Jack, Poker and Roulette. Entry is strict and you will be required to show an ID if you look under 18 years of age.

If you appreciate opera and theatre then you shouldn’t miss a night out in the Teatro Massinmo Bellini in Catania. This is one of the biggest opera houses in Europe and is engraved in history and culture. The Massimo Bellini can accommodate one thousand people to watch its opera, ballet and musicals. Events are massively popular with local people so if you wish to watch a play, it's advised you book early for better seats and definite entry. If you are visiting during the summer months then open air theatres can be found in most city centres. These events are usually free and a great way to entertain the family.
