Carinthia
Carinthia is the most southernly state of Austria. It lies within the eastern Alps, famous especially for its mountains and lakes. Klagenfurt is the capital city. Villach and Malta are the other two towns that are worth visiting. The climate is continental – the summers are hot and a bit wet and the winters are long and cold. One of the important industries is tourism; others are engineering, electronics, agriculture and forestry. Places not to be missed include the lakes Worthersee, Villach, Faaker See, Ossiachersee, the ski resorts Nassfeld, Bad Kleinkirchheim, Heiligenblut, the cathedral of Gurk, the castle Hochosterwitz, the Grobglockner mountain and the Nockberge for practicing winter sports. There are about 200 lakes in the region as well as magnificent mountains and plentiful sunny days in summer. The region welcomes everybody – people who like winter sports, water sports, and mountain hiking, horse-riding, biking or golfing.
