Liege
Liege is a province in the French-speaking region of Walloon in Southeastern Belgium. It contains a significant German minority near the border with Germany and Luxembourg. The province is surrounded by Germany, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, the Belgian province of Luxembourg, Namur, Walloon Brabant, Flemish Brabant and Limburg. Liege is the most "mountainous" area in Belgium, with its highest peak rising to less than 700 metres above sea level. The Ardennes occupy most of the province's territory, representing densely forested hills, vast swamps and moorlands. The hilly area is a paradise for nature-lovers, since it's the last spot in the country where virgin nature is still preserved. The diversity of flora and fauna is protected in the nature reserves. The capital, Liege, in the valley of the river Maas is a major industrial and transport centre. It's also known for its steel production and prestigious university. Annual folk festivals draw crowds of participants and spectators from near and far.
