Limburg
The province of Limburg is among the smallest in Belgium in terms of territory. It's situated in the northwestern end of the country on the Dutch border. To the west, the province borders Antwerp and Flemish Brabant, while to the south lies Liege. Limburg's terrain is flat and the focal point of the area is the Albert Canal, a busy thoroughfare, but also a frequently visited recreational area. The region is predominantly industrial, although there are no big agglomerations. Limburg is famous for its coal-mining industry and the largest fruit-producing land in Belgium. The administrative centre is Hasselt, a historical town with plenty of parks and gardens, as well as an annual alternative music festival. Much better known, however, are the thriving city of Genk with its open-air museum and planetarium, and the educational centre of Diepenbeek.
