Namur
Namur is a province in Southern Belgium, bordering France to the south, the domestic province of Luxembourg to the east, Walloon Brabant and Liege to the north and Hainaut to the west. The terrain here is comparatively varied, with part of the Ardennes in the east. The region is densely populated, but has a prevailingly rural character. Tourists can experience authentic culture and traditional hospitality in the numerous summer houses and farms. The whole of Namur is strewn with ancient fortification facilities, which represent a great attraction. The capital of the province bears the same name, and is picturesquely located at the confluence of the rivers Sambre and Maas. It boasts a valuable Medieval citadel on a rock above the city and is a first-class cultural centre. The most distinguished landmarks are its splendid cathedral and UNESCO-listed belfry. The University of Namur counts itself among the most prestigious institutions of higher education in the country.
