Tuzla
Tuzla is one of the 10 Bosnian cantons and is situated in the north-eastern part of the country. It is surrounded by the Republic of Srpska on three sides, except for south where it borders the canton of Zenica-Doboj. The whole region abounds in spectacular scenery: imposing rocky mountains, narrow valleys and gorges and sparkling mountain creeks. The extremely dry weather during most of the year and the long hours of sunshine also add to the attractiveness of the area as a destination for active holidays or rural tourism. Tuzla is a first-class destination for scientific research in the fields of archaeology and ethnography. Countless heritage sites and findings are interesting, not only for experts and scientists, but for tourists of all kinds. The best preserved medieval fortress in Bosnia and Herzegovina is located in the town of Srebrenik and is among the most visited spots in the canton. The region of Tuzla was one of the most heavily destroyed areas during the civil war. As a result, its population has diminished by one third over the last 20 years. The seat of the canton, Tuzla, has more than 1,000 years of history. The third biggest Bosnian city is known for its salt deposits, the salt lake amidst the city garden and its booming music industry.
