Pazardzhik
A province of southern Bulgaria, Pazardzhik is well-known for its wealth of waterways, comprising the rivers of Maritsa, Topolnitsa and Luda Yana. While the area remains largely industrial, it still leaves plenty of room for tourism. The Rhodope Mountains allow for plenty of rural activities, and among the better known resorts in the area, Tsigov Chark and Saint Konstantin have the best infrastructure. The local artificial lakes, especially Batak Dam, are excellent for fishing, and the streams are abundant in trout. Notable towns in the region include Velingrad, Strelcha, Banya, Varvara, Panagyurishte, Pazardzhik, Batak and Velingrad, most of them offering artifacts of Ottoman rule. The vicinity of Belovo contains a major Roman fortification, while the ramparts of Bata and Strelcha are also worth attention.
