Sofia Province
Bordering the city province of Sofia, this largely hilly and mountainous territory incorporates a portion of the southern Balkan Mountains, Rila with the peninsula's highest peak, Musala, a number of minor mountains plus several fertile valleys. Tourism is thriving in the area, with the ski resorts of Borovets and Samokov being particularly worth attention. Industrially, the region concentrates on metallurgy, with a particular emphasis on copper mining. Other notable towns and industrial centres of the area include Botevgrad, Pravets, Etropole, Samokov, Elin Pelin, Slivnitsa, Godech and Svoge.
