Sisak-Moslavina
Sisak-Moslavina
The county of Sisak-Moslavina is situated in the central part of Croatia, on the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina and surrounded to the west, north and east by Karlovac, Bjelovar-Bilogora, Zagreb, Pozega-Slavonia and Brod-Posavina. The landscape is similar to the rest of Eastern and Central Croatia - endless hilly areas occupied by arable land and sparse forests. The main river, the Sava, crosses the region and plays a significant role in transport, recreation and fishing. In the countryside, there are plenty of mineral water springs, such as Ivanic Grad and Daruvar, around which some excellent health and spa resorts have developed. The ornithological reserve of Rakita enchants nature lovers with its unmatched diversity of birds. As a renowned wine-production centre, the historical region of Moslavina is crossed by numerous wine roads. However, the most important tourist destination in the county is its capital, Sisak, a historical town originating from Roman times, which used to be the largest settlement in Pannonia. Nowadays, it enchants guests with its excellently preserved Medieval fortress on the banks of the Kupa.
