Istria
The county of Istria is situated in the northwestern end of Croatia, on the Istrian Peninsula. Its long, indented coastline with extremely diverse natural forms is considered one of the most beautiful districts in the country. The terrain is also varied, mainly consisting of spacious limestone areas with few natural water basins. As a result of its turbulent history and frequently changing rulers, modern Istria has many faces. While the coast is typically Italian in character, in the inner heights one can feel the spirit of Central Europe. Plenty of tiny fortified Medieval towns decorate the spectacular landscape, and archaeological evidence originating from 6000 BC has been found in the area. The fabulous Istrian cuisine combined with the genuine hospitality of the locals, is another good reason to visit this piece of paradise. What's more, due to its unique location, the region offers guests the opportunity to swim in the warm waters of the Adriatic Sea while enjoying a fantastic view of the snow-capped Alpine peaks in mid-summer.
