Virovitica-Podravina
The county of Virovitica-Podravina lies in the north-eastern part of Croatia, on the border with Hungary. To the west, south and east, the county is surrounded by Koprivnica-Krizevci, Bjelovar-Belogora, Pozega-Slavonia and Osijek-Baranja, respectively. Its name originates from its capital, Virovitica, and the region around the river Drava, called Podravina. The terrain is predominantly flat, with sporadic hills and heights breaking the monotony in the south. From a visitors' point of view, the rural countryside with its charming villages and summer houses is an ideal place for sport or recreation. The only two larger towns in the county are Virovitica and Slatina. Although Virovitica is the administrative centre and bigger in terms of population, Slatina is an enchanting historical town with an exciting history and plenty of landmarks and tourist attractions, varying from a castle and copious museums to parks, gardens and playgrounds.
