Pozega-Slavonia
Pozega-Slavonia
Pozega-Slavonia, the second-least populous county in Croatia, is located in the heart of the historical region of Slavonia in the eastern part of the country. The tiny area is surrounded by Bjelovar-Bilogora, Virovitica-Podravina, Osijek-Baranja, Brod-Posavina and Sisak-Moslavina. It is almost entirely flat and occupied by arable land and vineyards. Not surprisingly, in most of the towns and villages there's at least one wine cellar that welcomes connoisseurs and curious guests. The countryside is extremely suitable for outdoor recreation, with an immense choice of activities ranging from hunting and fishing to leisurely strolls and picnics. History freaks will certainly enjoy the abundance of Habsburg mansions and castles to be seen all around. The administrative centre of the county, Pozega, is a moderately-sized provincial town whose origins date back to the beginning of the 13th Century. Its rich heritage includes a couple of Medieval churches and one of the most beautiful central squares in Croatia. In Pozega and its surroundings, countless events are organized every year, including film and folk music festivals, beauty contests and food fairs.
