Brod-Posavina
Brod-Posavina is a county in the central part of the country, on the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina. The border is formed by the river Sava, hence the name for the whole area. In geographical terms, the region is almost completely flat, most of its area being occupied by productive land. Agriculture is the leading sector of the local economy, while big industrial zones are a rarity. The capital, Slavonski Brod, boasts a long, dynamic history stretching as far back as the Roman Empire. A number of interesting archaeological sites and landmarks have survived since those times, and represent tourist attractions of great value. The undeniable jewel among them is the Brod Fortress, one of the best preserved facilities of its kind in Europe. Also noteworthy is the Franciscan monastery with its remarkable library. Opportunities for active tourism are ample, from swimming in the Sava and the surrounding lakes to hunting and fishing in specially designated areas. The wines from Slavonski Brod and its vicinity are well-known and respected throughout Europe
