Dubrovnik-Neretva
The county of Dubrovnik-Neretva occupies a narrow strip of land and numerous islands in the southernmost part of Croatia. Its mainland territory is divided in two by part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and in addition borders on Montenegro. This is one of the most visited regions of the Adriatic countryside, due to its unique combination of culture, sea and intact nature which it offers. The city of Dubrovnik is one of the best tourist destinations not only in Croatia, but on the whole Balkan Peninsula as well. An important trade centre and crossroads in the Middle Ages, it's now a prime destination for cultural tourism, its Old Town being listed in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Seaside tourism is also thriving in the entire region, given the varied coastline with alternating rugged cliffs and idyllic beaches. Other noteworthy places include the birthplace of Marco Polo, Korcula, plus the spectacular Mljet National Park with its lakes and rare vegetation.
