Hradec Kralove Region
The Hradec Kralove Region is situated in the northern part of the country and borders the regions of Liberec, Pardubice and Central Bohemia. To the north and east, the region shares a common frontier with Poland. The landscape of the district is dominated by the majestic Krkonose Mountains, with Snezka, the highest Czech peak. To the south, there's another height, namely the Orlicke Mountains. Both of them are easily accessible and a paradise for nature lovers, mountaineers and mountain bikers. Hradec Kralove is known as the source of the river Elbe, one of the major European waterways. Especially charming are its many small historical towns and Baroque castles, like Kuks, Pecka and Humprecht, which are scattered throughout the region. The administrative centre of Hradec Kralove is famous for its exquisite piano manufacturing, prestigious universities and traditional architecture. It also boasts a rich cultural programme, including various shows, events and music festivals.
