Zlin Region
The Zlin Region is located in the south-eastern end of the Czech Republic. It lies in the historical region of Moravia and borders Slovakia and the regions of Olomouc, Moravian-Silesia and South Moravia. The district is predominantly mountainous, save for the plain along the river Morava. Due to the poor soil, only a small part of the land is used for agriculture. Most of it is crossed by cycling and hiking networks, which together with the plentiful summer houses and family-owned hotels provide fantastic conditions for tourism. Much of the region's area is under the protection of UNESCO, the White Carpathians being the largest natural protected area in the country. The administrative centre of Zlin is an architectural jewel, with exceptional examples of Modernist buildings throughout the city. It also hosts a prestigious university and provides a wide range of entertainment options and a rich cultural programme.
