Vysocina
Vysocina is one of the 14 Czech regions, situated in the central part of the country. The region is surrounded on all sides by the regions of Pardubice, South Moravia, South Bohemia and Central Bohemia. It's predominantly rural in character, but in spite of that the population density is very high. Most of the district's area is occupied by Mount Vysocina, after which it was named. This is a low, hilly land strewn with pastures, farms and holiday houses. According to some sources, an area near the Medieval town of Havlickuv Brod is the geographical centre of Europe. The Vysocina region possesses a great number of cultural treasures, above all the three UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Telc, Trebic and Zdar nad Sazavou. Tourists are also attracted by good skiing conditions in winter and watersports opportunities in summer. The capital, Jihlava, which is the oldest mining town in the Czech Republic, is also the venue for annual film and music festivals.
