Pardubice Region
The Pardubice Region occupies parts of the two historical Czech regions of Bohemia and Moravia. Lying in the central part of the country, Pardubice borders Poland and the region of Hradec Kralove to the north, Olomouc to the east, Vysocina and the South Moravian Region to the south and the Central Bohemian Region to the west. The terrain is varied, with the south occupied by flat and hilly areas, consisting almost entirely of arable land, while the north is dominated by Mount Snieznik rising along the Polish border. Apart from being one of the most significant Czech agricultural districts, Pardubice is also a developed industrial region and transportation hub, especially its administrative centre of the same name, which plays central role in the railway system of the country and has a modern international airport. Among the tourist attractions, its historical monuments and Medieval castles stand out. Especially worthwhile is Litomysl, a Renaissance castle which is on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List.
