South Bohemia
The South Bohemian Region is the southernmost administrative division in the Czech Republic. Among all 13 regions, it ranks second in terms of territory. Most of the land is devoted to agricultural use, but there are still plenty of valuable protected natural areas, above all the Bohemian Forest, a mountain range whose southern end stretches into the region. It's one of the best-developed tourism districts in the country, with a dense network of hiking trails and cycling routes. In the winter, its slopes are attacked by thousands of ski fans. There are thick pine forests, swamps and moorlands in the lower parts of the region, and Sumava National Park is a paradise for nature lovers with its varied flora and rich wildlife. Cultural attractions include the extremely picturesquely located historical town of Cesky Krumlov and the administrative centre of Ceske Budejovice, with its romantic ambience and splendid architecture. The latter is known worldwide for its brewing industry and as the birthplace of one of the most famous beer brands on earth.
