Nordjylland
The region of Nordjylland occupies the northern tip of the Jutland Peninsula and the adjoining
tiny islands in the Baltic Sea, most which are uninhabited. It shares a land border
only with Midtjylland to the south, while from the other three sides it is surrounded by water. A
large number of harbours and seaside resorts line the coast. They are the perfect destination for
family holidays. Everywhere you can hire a boat or a bike and enjoy the idyllic views. There are
also family-owned farms that are open for visitors who wish to acquaint themselves with rural
life and traditions. After the wide sandy dunes and beaches in the flat inland, numerous forests
provide nature lovers with the opportunity to enjoy a picnic, gather wild fruit or pick flowers. A
dense network of rivers, channels and swamped lakes will delight all fans of water sports. As in
most other regions of the country, you can encounter hundreds of wind turbines used to
produce electric power. A remarkable place is the northernmost point of Denmark - the town of
Skagen. Its major attractions are the famous lighthouse and the Buried Church, most of which
lies under the dunes. The administrative centre and largest city of Nordjylland is Aalborg. The
modern industrial and transportation centre is known foremost for its colourful carnival.
