Aland
The province of Aland comprises the archipelago of the Aland Islands in the Baltic Sea, between the mainland areas of Finland and Sweden. They're home to a significant Swedish minority, and even the official language is Swedish. The area is exclusively rural, with fishing and agriculture being the main sectors of the economy. Tourism is also rapidly developing, since more and more guests are attracted by the idyllic countrysside and watersports opportunities at the seaside. The archipelago consists of approximately 6,500 islands and skerries, but almost the entire population inhabits the largest island, Fasta Aland. The capital, Mariehamn, lies on the southern coast of the island. It's an important international port and trade centre, notable for its ship museum and the innovative architectural monuments in the centre of town. The province as a whole is the right place for cultural tourism, especially impressive for the numerous authentic festivals happening at all times of the year.
