Basse-Normandie
Basse-Normandie (Lower Normandy) is an administrative region in France, created in 1956 when Normandy was divided into Basse-Normandie and Haute-Normandie. The economy of the region is mostly agricultural, with livestock, dairy farming, and fruit production. The textile industry is the best developed. Near Caen, there are mines for iron ore. The tourism industry is also well-developed. In this region, its original language is spoken, Norman. The dialect of the Cotentin is more in evidence than the others.
