Alsace
The region of Alsace is in the northeastern part of France, near the border with Germany. The traditional architecture, featuring timbered buildings, gives visitors the feeling of being in a fairy tale land. The landscape is a mixture of forests, fertile farmland, many vineyards, fortified towns and quiet villages with windows covered with geranium. The vineyards are some of the oldest in France. They appeared before the birth of Julius Caesar, but it was the Romans who improved their growth and, during the 3rd Century, they shared their knowledge of preparing wine, which led to the prosperity of the region. Some of the best wines that deserve tourists’ attention are Riesling and Muscat.
