Aquitaine
Aquitaine is a French province in the southwest of the country. It's situated along the Atlantic and the Pyrenees Mountains, near the border with Spain. It is an ancient province, once even a kingdom, and later a duchy. There are plenty of prehistoric sites in the region which attract visitors’ attention. The artifacts are so abundant that the region is often called the “Cradle of the Arts”. Worth visiting are the Gallo-Roman époque, the fortresses, the abbeys, and the chateaus, La Madeleine, Lascaux and Rouffignac. The region is world famous for the production of different kinds of excellent red wine, produced from the vineyards of Bordeaux, such as Medoc, Margaux, Graves, Pomerol and Saint-Emilion. Sauternes is a famous sweet white wine. Another attractive thing for tourists is its cuisine, based on elaborate traditional recipes, and mainly cooked with confits.
