Auvergne
Auvergne is a historical province, lying in the centre of France. It's not so well-developed for tourism as some of the other regions, but has plenty to show visitors, with nature reserves, thermal springs, numerous lakes, rivers, mountain streams, and churches with a characteristic style. As the region extends over a big part of the Central Massif, it offers excellent conditions for winter sports with a large number of facilities. The rivers Loire, Allier, Lot and Dordogne have their sources in this region. The varieties of cheese give fame to the region, along with the export of mineral water (Volvic is one of them) and tyres (Michelin). The largest regional nature park in France, the Park Regional des Volcans, is here. Farming also has a long tradition. The milk of the orange-haired Salers cow is used for the production of Cantal and Salers cheese. Other famous kinds of cheese are St. Nectaire, Bleu d’Auvergne and Fourme d”Ambert.
