Bretagne
Bretagne (Brittany) is one of the 26 regions of France. It's situated on a large peninsula in the northwest, between the Channel to the north and the Bay of Biscay to the south. Its capital is Rennes. There are a lot of wide open spaces on its territory. The coastline is 1,100 km long, and that's why the sea plays an important role in the development of the region. Its beaches are covered with fine golden sand. Some of the major cities include Lorient (founded in 1666 by the Company of India), Saint-Malo (an old Corsaire city), Brest (an important port during World War II) and Concarneau (a fishing port). The winds from the sea make the climate favourable for growing vegetables and fruit. In the western part of Brittany is spoken Breton, a Celtic language, coming from Cornish and Welsh.
