Île-de-France
Ile-de-France is the most popular of the 26 regions in France. It includes the City of Paris and the surroundings of the metropolitan city. There are several large industrial towns and residential suburbs in it. There is also some agricultural production, especially of sugar beet and wheat. Ile-de-France was the cradle of the French monarchy. The territory around paris was the personal domain of the King of France. After the French Revolution the region was divided into smaller parts. Historically and economically important are Compiegne, Beauvais, laon, Fontainebleau, Meaux, Nemours, Melun, Saint-Germain-en-Laye, Saint-Cloud, Soissons, Senlis, and Versailles.
