Lorraine
The region of Lorraine in France is a place where visitors can discover art, delicious cuisine and great outdoor possibilities. Situated in the far northeast, it's often called Pays de Trios Frontiers (Land of Three Frontiers) because it shares borders with Luxembourg, Germany and Belgium. The western part of Lorraine is geologically composed of rolling hills of clay, separated by the north-south running limestone ridges of the Cotes de Moselle and the Cotes de Meuse. That's the reason for the various kinds of farming – dairy, wheat and oats. The ridges have been defensive barriers against enemy attacks. The use of potatoes in the local cuisine can be traced back to 1665. Nowadays, they're used in various traditional dishes, such as the 'potee lorraine'.
