Central Greece
Central Greece is the second largest administrative division in Greece, in terms of population, situated in the centre of the continental area and bordering on the peripheries of Thessaly to the north, West Greece to the west and Attica to the south. The region's lengthy coastline stretches along the Gulf of Corinth, ideal for holidaymakers and watersports fans. The large and mountainous island of Euboea, reaching east of the mainland, also belongs to the region. The major attraction of Central Greece is the varied landscape, with majestic mountain peaks and deep winding river valleys. Some of the most famous Greek natural phenomena are found here, as well as impressive heritage sites. The archaeological site of Delphi, regarded as one of the focal points of Ancient Greek culture, is included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site list, visited by millions of tourists each year. Another attraction includes the pre-historical fortification above the administrative centre in Lamia, a city with more than 2,500 years of documented history.
