Heves
The county of Heves lies in Northern Hungary. One of the smallest regions of the country, it borders Nograd to the north, Jasz-Nagykun-Szolnok to the south, Borsod-Abauj-Zemplen to the east and Pest to the west. Two of the highest Hungarian mountain ranges, Matra and Bukk, occupy significant parts of the county's territory in the north, lending diversity and attractiveness to the landscape. These areas, together with the coast of the artificial Lake Tisza, are favourite destinations for nature lovers. Fit mountaineers are challenged by the highest peak in Hungary, Kekes. Dozens of splendid Medieval castles and aristocratic estates in the countryside welcome visitors interested in history, culture and art. The administrative centre, Eger, is renowned for its exclusive Baroque cathedral and the northernmost Turkish minaret. It's also the centre of a rich wine-producing region.
