Pest
The county of Pest is the most populous and third-largest administrative division in Hungary. It completely surrounds Budapest, which doesn't belong to Pest, though it serves as its administrative centre. To the north, the county borders Slovakia and Nograd, to the east with Heves and Jasz-Nagykun-Szolnok, to the south with Bacs-Kiskun and to the west with Fejer and Komarom-Esztergom. This is one of the most significant regions of the country in economic terms, since it's under the influence of the capital and parts of it belong to the larger metropolitan area. The river Danube is the main transport thoroughfare in the area, as well as a main tourist attraction. Other interesting places to see, like everywhere else in Hungary, include aristocratic estates, palaces and Medieval castles. The biggest urban area in Pest is the city of Erd, which was founded more than 750 years ago and features remains from various historic eras, from ancient Roman roads to Turkish minarets.
